: AFL-CIO NOW BLOGOhio Working People Holding Vigil as Vote Nears on S.B. 5
By James Parks
Ohio?s working people will return to the Statehouse again tonight for a vigil to oppose Senate Bill 5 (S.B. 5) and Gov. John Kasich?s attacks on the middle class. The vigil, which began at 4 p.m. ET, comes on the heels of the passage of S.B. 5 in the Senate Insurance, Commerce and Labor Committee this morning. The full Senate is debating the bill and may vote on it tonight.
In a desperate move to approve the bill, Republicans removed Sen. Bill Seitz, a Cincinnati Republican and a public critic of the bill, off of the committee, replacing him with Sen. Cliff Hite who voted for it.
Yesterday, more than 20,000 workers, faith leaders, students and community members filled the West Lawn to protest Kasich?s anti-middle-class agenda and S.B. 5.
