: FinancialCounselUPDATE: Financial Adviser Kenneth Starr Sentenced to 7 Years Prison for Operating $50 Million Ponzi Scheme
By James Eccleston
Financial adviser to the stars Kenneth Starr, who in September 2010 pled guilty to operating a $50 million Ponzi scheme, was recently sentenced to serve 7 years in prison. Starr was a high profile investment adviser to high net worth and celebrity clients, including Neil Simon, Denise Rich, and Jim Wiatt, Uma Thurman and Lauren Bacall. Starr operated a $50 million Ponzi scheme that endured for at least five years before he was arrested and charged with fraud by the SEC.
Starr and his two companies, Starr Investment Advisors and Starr & Company, allegedly violated securities laws applicable to investment advisers and made transferred money from client accounts to personal accounts that Starr controlled. Starr ultimately used some of the client's money to support his extravagant lifestyle.
