: Lenz BlogJohn Beddington Worst Case Scenario
By Karl-Friedrich Lenz
John Beddington is the English Government’s Chief Scientific Officer. A couple of days ago he spoke to the British Embassy in Tokyo.
I found his comments on a possible worst case scenario interesting. If some of the fuel melts and hits the concrete below, there will be an explosion. Bad news.
However, said explosion will be only about 500 meters high and a one-time event. Even assuming worst possible weather conditions, there is no way that material becomes spread widely outside the 30 kilometer safety zone. Good news.
