Glad to be back.  This is my second time wearing the Prawfs jeans, so they're broken in and I'm feeling jaunty.

Confession:  I?m suspicious of humorless people.  People who are unflinchingly unsmiling, or blind to the lighter side of otherwise serious situations, strike me as the sort most likely to ignore reality in favor of pet abstractions.  And that?s when people get really dangerous, as well as being terrible dinner guests.  Reality is never a model, in which all the inputs and relations are crisply defined and aligned with a pleasing elegance; the world is messy, rebellious, and absurd.  Humor acknowledges and reminds us of that, as do mustaches, at least on some people.  And we can still love models.

Plus, in purely instrumental terms, when I?ve hit a wall writing or researching ? when everything seems wooly and slow-moving ? a few genuine guffaws seem to reset my brain faster than anything else.  Laughter as a mind hack! Similar experience, readers? If not, what works for you?
