The Adjuster is Calling About Your Virginia Injury Claim, Now What?

By Ben Glass

ADVERTISEMENTS

You are at home, trying to recover from the injuries sustained in a Virginia car accident. Your mind is still processing what happened and how your future will be impacted. The phone starts to ring. It is the insurance adjuster. What should you do?

When you are hurt in an accident caused by the other driver, you better believe that the insurance adjuster will be calling. He or she will be working on your injury claim and will have questions. While some claims are settled with little hassle, many times the insurance company employs various tactics to get out of paying for your injuries. If the insurance adjuster is trying to reach you, there is a good chance that he or she will try to persuade you to give a recorded statement.

You Don't Have to Give a Recorded Statement
Back to the original question, what should you do when the adjuster from the at-fault driver's insurance company calls? You should be polite, but you should say 'no' to a recorded statement. The last thing you want to do is harm your case.

Once you provide a recorded statement, it will be transcribed and reviewed. The insurance adjuster will secretly be hoping that you say something that will damage your case. Your recorded statement could therefore be used against you.

It is in your best interests to talk with a Virginia personal injury lawyer before you continue with your injury claim.
