Preparing for #BIALL2017 : The Manchester Bee

ADVERTISEMENTS

The Manchester Bee

Whilst walking around Manchester, you may notice images of bees on a lot of buildings, lamp posts, bins, plant tubs etc; this is because the worker bee is the adopted symbol of Manchester. Since 1842 the bee has been incorporated into the city?s coat of arms, and was adopted as a motif due to Manchester?s role in leading the industrial revolution, with the industrious worker bee representing the hard-working people.

If you make a visit to the iconic Manchester Town Hall, take a look at the mosaic flooring which depicts lots of bees, and when outside the conference venue, take a good look at the clock tower? each quarter hour on the clock is marked by a bee.

Some more images of bees around the city are shown at https://www.timeout.com/manchester/blog/whats-the-buzz-with-manchesters-bees
