BRAGGING RIGHTS FOR BSO by Jimmie Davis, Jr.

The Broward Sheriff?s Office (BSO) has recently acquired high-tech savvy instruments that are costing the taxpayers hundreds of thousands of dollars [perhaps millions?] ? funds that could be better spent elsewhere, but these newly attained gadgets are merely bragging rights for BSO for when they attend law enforcement conventions to see who has the best outfitted division. The latest spending spree comes in the form of an infrared video-imaging system that checks the authenticity of money, passports and other often counterfeited documents, and costs about $40,000. The timing of purchasing this contraption begs a question, because budget cuts are coming from the legislature and the money should have been utilized in a different capacity - such as making conditions better for the inmates housed in their deplorable jail facilities! Or how about some decent uniforms, and some sheets and pillows for the beds, just to mention a few...continue to full post
