I'm a Bank of America customer and recently BofA bought out a very large regional bank in the big city and yesterday was the official corporate switchover. All BofA customers were free to bank at the VeryLargeRegionalBank locations because they had been officially switched. This was exciting to me because BPLF offices are in a VLRB building and it is very convenient to have a bank right here.
And so yesterday on the very first day of BofA running the offices of VLRB I went to deposit a check for a rather substantial sum of money. And I smiled and I was polite and I waited but Holy Heaven Above had they not trained these people?? I was polite while it took them 15 minutes to find my account and I smiled nicely when the manager came and they couldn't figure out which of my accounts was my checking account (which, was, you know, the account that wasn't the savings account) and I nodded and smiled patiently while they apologized. And after the 25 minute ordeal of cashing the check I went back into my office and double checked with my online banking to ensure the morons, had in fact, deposited the check into my account. And lo and behold, there it was, sitting in the "pending transactions" column.
You can imagine my surprise when it was missing from my account this morning. No longer pending, nothing. Just. Not. There. Thousands of dollars were just gone.
And so I marched right back down to that bank and gave that manager a piece of my mind...politely of course. I was on the verge of tears however because, um, that money is going to feed me and pay my rent and now it was missing and while I was fairly certain the receipt was sitting on my coffee table at home I wasn't entirely sure. And what if they didn't believe me and I just lost my money as though my checking account had miraculously turned into a portfolio and I'd made a bad investment on, say, an Internet venture to ship ice to people. Which, theoretically speaking, is probably a poor investment.
As it turns out there was some huge system wide glitch with every single credit in a BofA yesterday and the money will all be there tomorrow.
But if it isn't, ooh, heads will roll.
