"Class-action attorney Stanley Chesley, the lawyer who some say pioneered the practice of mass class-action claims, may take the witness stand to testify in the federal criminal prosecution of three Kentucky lawyers charged with allegedly bilking their clients out of tens of millions of dollars. Chesley, a partner at Cincinnati's Waite Schneider, worked with the three attorneys on a case in which they represented 440 plaintiffs."

"Public comments by a Massachusetts Commission Against Discrimination official about the state's maternity leave law have raised fears among management-side laywers that agency rulings may expand the law's reach. The MCAD commissioner said the agency is now taking a gender-neutral view of cases brought under the state's Maternity Leave Act and that workplace policies that grant leave to women, but not men, may amount to gender discrimination. "

"A pending partner vote at DLA Piper is expected to approve changes in leadership at the 3,632-attorney law firm. George Mitchell, the former U.S. senator who serves at DLA Piper's global chairman, will become global chairman emeritus. Frank Burch, currently one of the firm's joint-chief executives, will take the job as global chairman. Nigel Knowles and Lee Miller, who serve as joint-chief executives with Burch, will become co-global chief executives. Terry O'Malley will remain U.S. managing partner."
