: Northern Virginia Personal Injury Lawyer"Cosmetic Surgeon" in Jeopardy of Losing Her License
By Ben Glass
For the third time in a four year period, a doctor from Winston-Salem , North Carolina is in jeopardy of losing her license.
The N.C. Medical Board filed charges in June against Dr. Anne Litton White alleging that she advertised in a false and misleading manner, forged the name of another doctor on forms authorizing advertisements, and provided false information to a board investigator.
White's license was suspended twice in 2005. In February 2005, she was suspended for two years for overcharging patients, treating a patient with non-Food and Drug Administration approved drugs, and issuing misleading ads that gave the false implication that she was certified by the board in dermatology.
The suspension was reduced to 60 days as part of a consent agreement provided that she adhere to specific conditions, including billing record audits and tighter controls on surgeries by her office. White also agreed that she would not advertise herself to be board-certified without clearly stating that the certification is in family medicine.
Three months later, the board alleged that White violated the conditions by prescribing treatment for a patient that had not been examined by her and failing to maintain that patient's records accurately.
She once again received a two-year license suspension, which was reduced to 30 days provided she improve the records of her office, submit to random site inspections, and take courses in medical-ethics, among other conditions.
The board received a new complaint about White in August of 2007 regarding an advertisement in the Winston-Salem Yellow Pages listing board-certified dermatologist B. Marcus Treen as working at her clinic. Treen, in fact, practices in South Carolina .
The charges allege that an office worker witness White forging Treen's signature on a form to authorize the ad. White later denied the allegation.
In September of 2007, Treen's name was reported by a board investigator to be listed on the door of White's practice.
Currently, White's Web site advertises her services as a "cosmetic surgeon," a specialty not officially certified by the board.
