: Des Moines Personal Injury LawyerThe Who-Can-I-Sue Syndrome, is a misnomer and in bad taste
By Steve Lombardi
This is an open letter to you asking for your cooperation in cleaning up our profession by placing the profession ahead of all other considerations. I see you attended the University of Iowa College of Law, where I attended as an undergrad. You must be a Hawkeye at heart. You appear to have graduated and then moved to Florida where you have worked in the online media industry. We don't know each other, so I will not judge you. Several members of the InjuryBoard have posted about your chosen business name. Time picked up on it. The concept of your company is not new, but the name implies that people should look for someone to sue. Because you are a lawyer most would say you should know better than to place profit over the public's perception of what we do as lawyers. Rules of Ethics that apply equally to us all require a much higher standard.
People should not just look for someone to sue; they shouldn't and you and I both know that to be the case. But the general public doesn't and their perception of what we do is already distorted enough.
My request to you is simply this: Come up with a new name for this business venture you're creating. Use a name that doesn't imply we are all sue-crazy. As a professional courtesy please give this some thought. If you would like to voice your own opinion I invite you to do so, on this portal.
