Twitter - Work Or Job = Less Income

Twitterlogojpg Man-o-man, I like to blog.  I am not very good at it necessarily, but I enjoy it.  And, as a result, I am interested in venturing further into the social media thing.  This in my mind includes the possibility of Twitter.  I have set up an account, but I have not really set up the site and I have not used it.  Amazingly, without even using Twitter, I have managed to gain a small following of those people who want to read what I have not written.  Maybe they are hoping for some of my biting sarcasm?  It is hard to say.

My concern is the same as that expressed by Andrew Flusche on his blog Legal Andrew.  Where will I find the time?  It seems so distracting.  Twitter seems to be growing, but it also seems to be a device designed to interrupt your every moment.  After all, I still have to make a living in between thinking of issues, blogging, and handling the email and requests from that.

Besides, in this fast paced world, I come to long for the narrative, which is quickly leaving our society.  I tend to think that we are losing the construction of the stories and the reasoning of life.  We are avoiding the sequence of events.  We no longer recount anything.  We have lost the adjective gnarus.  And, this is a shame really because narrative is an important aspect of culture.  Humanity involves narrative.  Art and literature are nothing without stores.  Semiotics begins with the building blocks of meaning.

I understand that in society that discourse and discussion involves many forms and modalities.  And, it can be said that Twitter is only one of these.  But, it seems to me that it can quickly steal the time and energy from the other tasks.

Here we might learn the writer's point of view, but we lose the basis of understanding in decoding the text.  The who, the what, the when, the where, and the how disappear to something like "OMG!  McCain chose babe from Alaska!"  We get the talking points, but we have no chance of getting the structural analysis.

Also, is anybody really that interested in bane posts, like "Ate an orange at my desk.  Tasted good."

I am just going to have to give it more thought before I dive in.  Other than that, my question about Twitter is when will I find the time.
