Working Through the Night

By Andrea

ADVERTISEMENTS

I had a dream that another Boston immigration lawyer and I went to a high school, which happened to contain some of my old students from Houston, and we were going to represent some of them in deportation cases. In the dream I remembered this one kid's very unusual Guatemalan last name, and also got upset that one girl, who was one of my only students I knew for sure entered legally, had gotten a Notice to Appear (the thing that charges you.) So this is not a very hard dream to interpret.

I was also representing CM, who in the dream had let her green card expire and then lost it, and was really sad that she was going to get deported until I told her that the card expires but not the status, and so it was all a mistake, and it was at this point in my dream explanation that Dan said, "This is the most boring dream you have ever explained to me," and left for the bathroom. But I thought it was pretty cool that I gave real advice in a dream! (Except CM is a U.S. citizen. But besides that.)

I make my first appearance in court on Tuesday, at a master calendar hearing, which is where you do pleadings and motions and get individual hearing dates. It's not very scary. I've just never done it before, and since the same few judges and DHS trial attorneys (prosecutors) are always there, I want to give the illusion of competence. I think my subconscious is just getting me pumped up.
