Yesterday I had (finally) my appointment with an orthopedic surgeon. Although I really just wanted to see an "orthopedist" as I'm taking any surgical repairs of mah shoulder or mah broken back off the table, apparently there are no "orthopedist's" just "orthopedic surgeons." So I made an appointment, waited, rescheduled, waited some more, called a new facility and finally had an appointment yesterday. The clouds parted & the angels sang. I was ready...what for, I have no idea but I was ready.
Diagnosis? Yup, my back is broken. He called is "somewhat concerning" with nothing we can really do for it other than some super sweet physical therapy that might alleviate the tightness that I feel & hopefully prevent that poor little L5 from slipping over S1 any further.
Diagnosis: Shoulder Edition? Rotator cuff injury. Ding ding ding to all of you who figured that out ahead of time. Brownie points! And the plan? More super sweet physical therapy. And Tylenol 3. I love me some Tylenol 3. Apparently people with "stomach issues" shouldn't really be eating massive quantities of Advil & Aleve (ahem, Katie, I'm looking at you) and as I told him that Tylenol really did squat for me (I might as well just take sugar pills) he told me I could try the super magical formula of Tylenol+Codeine.
We started the appointment off him noticing my "occupation" where I had written "lawyer" (yup, still feels weird) and he asked what kind of law. Always an awkward moment when I'm sitting in nothing but a gown, with the said Doctor between me & my clothes, but I went ahead and told him that I was one of the evil lawyers, who sues doctors. But! I'm switching sides in two weeks! Sweet! He seemed to accept that & move on. And? I learned that if one goes to an apple orchard & is attacked by ferocious mean gnats & subsequently gets allergic-y hives at the bite sites, that really freaks out an orthopedic surgeon who is just trying to look at your shoulders & elbows. Heh. And I discovered that apparently I have the most bendy neck that the Doctor or the resident has ever seen. Who knew? Daisy Duke = Flexible Neck Extraordinaire. Always looking for something new for the resume.
