Today is the day. I'm going to skedaddle out of here a few minutes early (physical therapy appointment at 5) and then, the end of an era. I'm done at BPLF. Monday morning I'm off to shiny-new-real-lawyer job complete with an office & malpractice insurance. I'm leaving politely & professionally, with deadlines met and no missing keys on my keyboard. I've changed my outgoing voicemail message so clients don't expect me to call them back & the only thing I'm stealing is my "Draft" stamp. And my Rules of Civil Procedure. And fine, maybe a legal pad or two. But only because I've already used part of them. I'll leave my fancy high-tech stapler to the highest lowly-law-clerk bidder. (Just kidding guys! You are not lowly! But you do have to fight over my fancy stapler!)

Last night I had a phone conversation with Mama Duke. She knows I have a blog but I haven't given her the URL and she's promised me she won't go looking for it, sort of a little trust agreement between us. There isn't anything "bad" here-- but at the same time-- well there are lines. This is one of them. Anyway, this is how our conversation went.

Me: So Mom. Funny story. I got an email from the legal website in the UK. They are compiling a list of the Top 10 Legal Blogs. They picked 3 from the United States!

Mom: That's nice. Your Grandmother says hello. We had lunch at the Club today.

Me: Gotcha. Anyway, guess what?? They picked my blog! For the list! Isn't that cool and also funny! They also picked Grace's blog! And then this blog called Above the Law. But Above the Law is a real-live website. Not some silly blog like mine. Sort of cool, huh? And um, kind of a little bit of pressure like maybe I should write about more legally-related stuff & not about BISMOW and I, and how I like Starbucks, and things I like to cook.

Mom: Wow! I've heard of Above the Law. This is really something for your resume!! Grandmother! Daisy's blog is going to be listed on a website in the UK as a top legal blog!

(Me. Having visions of future employers browsing these archives & learning that I'm a cooking, novel reading, complete klutz with a propensity for bad language, run on sentences and the occasional misplaced comma & poor verb/noun agreement. Begins hyperventilating. Passes out from shock. End of the story.)
