BCS Standings of December 1 Biased Ignoring Actual Football Performance : Oklahoma victor over 4 BCS ranks, Texas 3, Alabama & Florida only 1 each

By Andis Kaulins

ADVERTISEMENTS
The new BCS standings as of December 1, 2008

(The BCS rating score is a calculation based on a formula relying on the Harris Interactive poll, the USA Today coaches poll and selected computer polls.)

Take a look at that poll below anc consider the following stats:

Oklahoma has beaten the teams ranked 7, 11, 13, and 14 and has lost to the team ranked 3rd.
Texas has beaten the teams ranked 2, 14, and 20 and has lost to the team ranked 7th.
Florida has beaten the team ranked 16th and has lost to an unranked team.
Alabama has beaten the team ranked 16th and barely beat the same unranked team to which Florida lost. Now view the poll below which shows the so-called BCS "ratings".

1. Alabama 0.9713
2. Oklahoma 0.9351
3. Texas 0.9223
4. Florida 0.8851
5. USC 0.8076
6. Utah 0.7844
7. Texas Tech 0.7805
8. Penn St. 0.7373
9. Boise St. 0.7034
10. Ohio St. 0.6340
11. Texas Christian 0.5633
12. Ball St. 0.5306
13. Cincinnati 0.4831
14. Oklahoma St. 0.4276
15. Georgia Tech 0.4046
16. Georgia 0.3311
17. Boston College 0.3202
18. Brigham Young 0.3142
19. Oregon 0.3041
20. Missouri 0.2818
21. Michigan St. 0.2550
22. Northwestern 0.1216
23. Pittsburgh 0.1012
24. Florida St. 0.0768
25. Virginia Tech 0.0573

Even worse, in the AP Top 25 it is Alabama and Florida who are ranked 1 and 2, solely on the basis of what must be a pervasive SEC bias, for what else can it be?

All objective measures, such as strength of conference, margin of victory, pure points, strength of schedule and football offensive and defensive statistics favor either USC or one of the top Big 12 teams.

Alabama and Florida are ranked highly but not based on any objective standards of football performance. Things have even gone so far as to BLAME the Big 12 for the current BCS problems, which is absurd, since the Big 10 was the power behind the BCS throne. The Big 12 is deferring to the BCS - either it is right or wrong. If the BCS is wrong, then it should be amended within the present BCS bowl contract structure and replaced by a playoff system which retains bowl games. Where is the difficutly with that??
