New job

ADVERTISEMENTS
I suppose I should keep this story going and tell about the new job, eh? I'm sure you've all been waiting with baited breath.

The new job is going well. It is like night and day from the old place - when I started, my desk was set up and I had pens and a stapler and sticky notes. This sounds silly but at the law firm, I was floating from desk to desk for 3 days and it took ages to get my own login for the computer and I had to bring my own pens and sticky notes.

My desk has no phone (office is new, the staff outnumbers phones at this time) which is the greatest thing ever. The phone rings and I still kind of have that urge to lunge for it, but it's subsiding.

The people there are really, really nice. They value my previous experience in the industry and are asking questions that make me use my brain.

When I asked about hours, the attorney I am training with (training! I get training!) told me that they are 8 to 5:30, with an hour lunch. I asked her how often she took her lunch and she said, "Every day." and looked at me like I was asking her what color the sky was. Dude, I didn't leave the office once for lunch during the month of October. I worked 60 + hours a week without any breaks - it was miserable. I'm so, so excited to have a little bit of free time during the day to go to the pharmacy or pick up my own dry cleaning (my sister has been doing it, her hours were much more reasonable) or actually go out for lunch occasionally.

I think this was a good decision.
