: ACS Blog'Rising Political Star' Terrance Carroll Assumes Leadership of Colo. House of Representatives
Rep. Terrance Carroll (D-Denver) is the first African-American to be chosen speaker of Colorado’s House of Representatives. Carroll, a frequent ACS participant, is described by The Denver Post as a “rising political star” in the state. The Colorado legislature’s Senate is also led by an African-American, Sen. Peter Groff (D), making the state the first in the nation where both legislative chambers are led by blacks. The newspaper also reports the Colorado statehouse was “once governed by Ku Klux Klan members” and that the statehouse’s only African-American members now are Carroll and Groff. Carroll recently participated in a panel discussion on voter participation at the 2008 ACS National Convention. Video of that panel discussion is available here.
