Der Gouverneur von Illinois, Rod Blagojevich, nimmt an dem Verfahren zu seiner Amtsenthebung nicht teil. Er werde keine faire Anhörung bekommen, sagte er zur Begründung.

In zahlreichen Interviews beteuerte er seine Unschuld, verglich seinen Fall mit dem Angriff auf Pearl Harbour und sprach über Mutter Theresa.
