A Death Row Meal

By Ed Brayton

ADVERTISEMENTS

I just had dinner at Nobhill here at the MGM Grand. I had considered Craftsteak and Seablue, but settled on Nobhill, a Michael Mina restaurant, because I was dying to have his signature lobster pot pie again. Thankfully, it was included in a five course tasting menu so I decided to do that and get a bit of variety. I did not do the full wine pairing with the tasting menu, opting just for a glass of a lovely Pinot Noir.

The first course was a caviar parfait with smoked salmon on a rice cake. I'm not the biggest fan of caviar, but this was a nice start to the meal, very light. The second course was pan seared quail with a quail ravioli. The pan seared quail was very nice, but the ravioli was a miss - essentially flavorless and a bit undercooked as well. The normal second item on their seasonal tasting menu is a big eye tuna Nicoise, which I think I would strongly have preferred. Not sure why it was replaced today.
