Statewide Kentuckians Value Fairness Rally Feb. 25
Opposition to Senate Bill 68 Draws Additional Allies, KCHR Resolution
(Louisville, KY) Support for Kentuckians Value Fairness Day held in Frankfort Feb. 25 has grown in recent weeks with the strong public opposition to Senator Gary Tapp's (Dist. 20) anti-gay adoption bill, SB 68. Foster and adoption associations from Jefferson County and Pikeville, along with churches and Kentucky's chapter of the National Association of Social Workers are among the most recent organizations to endorse Wednesday's rally and lobby day. The Kentucky Commission on Human Rights released a timely resolution last Friday "Supporting Equal Opportunity in Adoption and Foster Care Policies" (attached), which will be read by Chair George Stinson at the rally.
Statewide Fairness laws, Senate Bill 95 and House Bill 72, introduced by Senator Kathy Stein (Dist. 13) and Representative Mary Lou Marzian (Dist. 34) respectively, will also be the focus of lobbying and rally support for the day. LGBTQ constituents, along with family and friends from across the Commonwealth, will lobby legislators in the morning with personal stories concerning the need for an anti-discrimination law and to oppose the adoption ban. Supporters will then join legislators in the Capitol Rotunda for a rally and press conference beginning at 12:30 pm.
"Champion of Fairness" awards will be presented to legislators who have introduced or supported a statewide Fairness law in the past.
The media is invited to attend.
