BSO NO LONGER TO SEGREGATE IC PROGRAMS

LETTER: Finkelstein to Lamberti "(On March 9th), we received word that the individuals in protective custody due to feminine characteristics will be receiving equal access to programs. Nevertheless, we continue to maintain that involuntary segregation of these individuals in unnecessary, wrong and hurtful. When members of my staff again pointed out that several other large county jails in Florida do not involuntary segregate individuals with feminine characteristics and even named those counties, such information was met with disbelief and skepticism.Accordingly, I directed my staff to assemble the name and contact information for those jails so that your staff can see that other jails of comparable size have taken a more enlightened and progressive approach on this subject, in hopes that you will decide that there is a better way to deal with the issues raised...continue to full post
