: Des Moines Personal Injury LawyerTEXAS MEDICAL DREAM TEAM: Second Invitation to those physicians bored with being rich.
By Steve Lombardi
We're covering the medical malpractice tort reform legislation that is attracting the best and the brightest malpractice physicians to join the Texas Medical Dream Team. Our first invitation went out to the doctor and surgical staff that couldn't count.
Today we are sending the second invitation out to the bored and rich. Here is a doctor who the news report indicated had a few problems in New York and Oregon but persuaded a hospital in Australia to grant him privileges. Reportedly when asked about his previous experiences and why he was no longer in the U.S. he responded that he'd retired rich was bored and wanted to give back to the community. And he certainly did.
'Mr Martin told the court the medical negligence charges against Dr Patel allege he performed the wrong surgery on the wrong patients at the wrong hospital.
Dr Patel, 58, is charged with the manslaughter of three male patients while he was the director of surgery at the regional hospital between April, 2003 and April, 2005.
He is also charged with two counts of grievous bodily harm to another two male patients and eight fraud related charges relating to how Dr Patel allegedly lied to get the job, registration and then maintained his position earning over $400,000.
For the fraud charges Mr Martin outlined Dr Patel's alleged medical history starting with basic qualifications in India and movement to the USA where he was dismissed during his training years.
It is alleged Dr Patel then falsified documents in order to get jobs, with New York state and Oregon eventually taking disciplinary action against him for gross medical negligence.
It is alleged he was banned from performing certain complex surgeries, had his licence cancelled and public order made against him in one state and resigned in another due to disciplinary action.
It was then, Mr Martin alleged, he applied online with a medical recruitment agency that knew Bundaberg Base Hospital was looking for a surgeon.'
Dr. Patel's malpractice premiums may have increased after all of these claims so Texas' protectionist legislation is a welcomed relief. So today we send out our second invitation to those doctors sitting at home and bored with being rich. Texas malpractice protections can save any physician from being financially responsible for that which they are liable. Welcome aboard.
