: ThePopTortNancy Nord Wants Out of the CPSC
By Andy Hoffman
First it was key members of Congress calling for Nancy Nord to step down as head of the Consumer Products Safety Commission (CPSC) after she thumbed her nose at a proposal to double the agency?s budget. Then, still more members of Congress called for Nord?s ouster when she refused to implement key provisions of the Consumer Products Safety Improvement Act (CPSIA). The New York Times editorial board also got into the act, as did a host of consumer groups, along with those of us here at ThePopTort.
Well now, Nancy Nord herself wants out. Apparently ?mounting complaints? related to her agency?s role in dealing (or not dealing!) with the CPSIA have all become too much, prompting Nancy Nord to write a letter to President Obama begging for her freedom from the troubled agency.
Perhaps Ms. Nord would rather return to her simpler life as an industry lawyer or a mouth piece for the U.S. Chamber of Commerce?masquerading as a consumer advocate for four years must be incredibly exhausting. Whatever the case, please President Obama?heed Nancy?s (and everyone else?s) call! Appoint a new CPSC head today!
