Employee Lawsuits Claim: Southern Nevada Health District Contaminated With Mold

By Andy Hoffman

ADVERTISEMENTS

Several different news outlets are reporting (here, here, here) that working for the Southern Nevada Health District?the agency in charge of protecting the health of Nevadans?required that employees gamble with their own health.

The Health District allegedly forced its own employees to work in a mold-contaminated environment that may have led to one worker, Dan Pauluk?s death, and the serious illness of several others.

Separate lawsuits are currently pending in the matter, and a class action suit is reportedly also being considered.  While the Southern Nevada Health District is remaining mum about the issue for now, Contact 13 Chief Investigator Darcy Spears has been reporting on the story for almost a year (see embedded story below), and claims environmental tests obtained by the news agency show ?mold has been present in the Health District?s main building for more than a decade.?  And Scripps News reported, ?the Health District's human resources department acknowledged in a September 2005 interoffice memo that "Dan is the third current active employee with this specific diagnosis."
