President Obama?s choice to lead the FDA, Margaret A. Hamburg, ?breezed through? her Senate confirmation hearing yesterday, while the administration is taking steps to better fund the troubled agency (although a lot of this money will come from user fees, making the agency even more dependent on companies it regulates).

A deputy district attorney, who is a military reservist and worked as a judge advocate in the California State Military Reserve, is suing Los Angeles County for not giving reservists proper pay as required by state law.  At the federal level, the U.S. Department of Justice has been suing employers ?almost on a weekly basis? for not giving injured soldiers their jobs back as required by federal law.

Obama?s promises to help African-American farmers may bear fruit after all with a proposed settlement.

Connecticut AG Richard Blumenthal settled a $2.4 million claim against insurance broker Marsh & McLennan for bid rigging, price-fixing, and steering ?Connecticut consumers and businesses to favored insurers in exchange for millions of dollars in secret kickbacks.?

Alameda, CA officials have agreed to settle with the family of a San Jose pediatrician who died after driving off an inadequately barricaded boat ramp into the Oakland-Alameda Estuary.
