KingCast sees other folks suing the government for malfeasance; this time over death trap "new" cars.

An interesting read from Chris Jensen as published in yesterday's NYTimes. My sister, who lives near NYC saw this piece. She's looking at a Nissan EX which just came out so I guess that's not really an issue, but damn..... shouldn't have to buy a new model year car to avoid being hosed, right?

It's all about buying what you think is a new whip, but instead buying a car that's been spanked.

The 1992 law required that a national database of stolen or badly wrecked vehicles be established. Insurance companies that wrote off cars as total losses and junkyards that received those wrecks were required to provide the vehicle?s identification numbers to the government. The suit asks the court to declare the Justice Department?s failure to implement the program unlawful and set a deadline for it to start operating.

Consumer advocates say that if the law is implemented it would disrupt a chain of events in which consumers are the big losers. Typically that chain starts with a vehicle so badly damaged that the insurance company decides it is not worth repairing. The junk vehicle is then sold at an auction. An unscrupulous buyer can rebuild it with an emphasis on cosmetic improvements while ignoring safety and reliability.

Now let me see.... where else have I seen the government promise to enforce existing laws designed to help its citizens learn the truth? I know, I know Mr. Kotter.... the would be in Franconia, New Hampshire, where the NH AG Kelly Ayotte's office has a designee on the Right-to-Know Commission that didn't even file a dang 2006 Annual Report as required by Law (specifically RSA 91-A 11-15) while said office assiduously avoids producing material that LE claim is important in the Franconia 5/11 double homicides involving Gregory W. Floyd, Bruce McKay and Liko Kenney. Like, say.... witness identification and fingerprint analysis. Look here.

One would think or hope that said office would want to lend a hand to help discover the identity of the folks who wrote in to the Union Leader to affirmatively misrepresent someone's identity in the Floyd/Kenney/McKay case. Perhaps I will write Kelly and see if she wants to help Mr. Jesseman and me sue the newspaper to discover the identity of these perp(s).
