: IBLS Internet Law BlogWhat Rights does an Individual Have on the Internet?
By IBLS Editor
Please would you help me. I am unable to find any information locally. What are my rights in the following situation:
An on-line publication published an article that was written about my business partner about 18 months ago. The article refers to him as Owen Nonyane of XYZ Co, his former place of employment. He has since opened his own business together with me and we are spending a lot of time and effort to get him established as an expert in this field and want his name to link back to his own company, not his former employer. However, when people google his name they will be referred to his old employer because of this article and they will not inform people that he has moved on. He has requested this publication to remove his name. They are refusing to comply.
What rights does an individual have on the internet? I believe he should have the right for his name to be removed as he never gave his permission to be published in this on-line magazine in the first place, they just copied it from an article in the daily press.
I understand that you are probably not a ?legal service? that one can just contact, but if you have a spontaneous answer for me, or know where to refer me to, I would be so grateful.
Warm regards
Annette
