Van Cliburn Finalists

ADVERTISEMENTS

The Judges made their decisions ? and the finalists did include my two favorites the Bulgarian man, Bozhanov, and the Italian woman, Vacatello.  Since you can see their performances online at www.cliburn.tv I suggest that you watch/listen to Bozhanov?s semi final recital and Vacatello?s preliminary recital.  Both are top notch.  In particular, I thought that Bozhanov?s rendition of the commissioned work, White Lies for Lomax, in his semi final recital was just excellent.  I also thought that his choice of the Franck piece to play with the quartet was a smart one as it showed off his skills well.  No other contestant chose that piece this season, but I would suspect others in the future will do so.

Other finalists included Wu (who has a great ability to transfer from a soft touch to a more delineated style in a smooth fashion), Tsujii, the young blind man from Japan, Son (who has an amazing mastery ? her hands are at many times a blur across the keyboard) and an 18 year old young man from China, Zhang.  I was sorry that the Italian man with the beard, Deljavan, and a young man from Israel, dank, did not move into the finals. But ? the talent from all the contestants made the Judges? decisions hard.
