It's becoming a challenge to write a post that doesn't include Twitter.com, and this one will be no different. A great source of interesting blogs and articles, someone tweeted the link to Corporette.com, a "fashion and lifestyle blog for overachieving chicks" a few weeks ago, and I've been hooked ever since.Sometimes it's hard to explain to people new to the business world, including students who've never owned a suit, exactly what career dressing should look like, but Corporette.com makes it easy with well-written posts - and pictures.
For example, today's post, "Suit of the Week", features a beautiful charcoal J. Crew suit, in a cut and color flattering to most wearers (and on sale, too) that would be appropriate in any conservative legal environment. You know I'm a fan of coordinating separates to expand a limited wardrobe, and this suit fills the bill with an additional "one-button blazer and two pairs of pants that go with the collection as well."
J. Crew can be a bit pricey for those on a limited budget, but even if you are just starting out in an entry-level professional job, invest in one amazing and timeless suit - and build a basic career wardrobe around it. Pioneering fashion historian James Laver said "Clothes are never a frivolity: they always mean something." Your good suit says you mean business.
