GIS and Mapping

ADVERTISEMENTS

GIS is the acronym used for Geographic Information System.  Commonly associated with maps, GIS data can be displayed in a variety of product types with many associated uses. GIS can link and layer data attributes to specific criteria, such as addresses to people or parcels to building.

GIS property details are then used by the assessing offices at the county or municipality level for taxation and real estate associated matters. Although they may appear intimidating, GIS mapping websites maintained by these government offices usually have a search mechanism for finding parcels, addresses, and sometimes, but not always, property owner names. A GIS website?s search feature is not always displayed prominently, but many assessor sites have them.

For more information about GIS visit www.gis.com.

To find GIS searching sites, visit one of the many free public record link sites. One site that does an excellent job of maintaining links is www.netronline.com.
