China?s Harmonious Legal System II: Harmonious Mediation

The other day I commented on a speech given by the Chief Justice of China’s Supreme People’s Court, which discussed judges, judicial training and the principles of China’s harmonious society. My reaction was that we were headed into another period of time where the goals of the harmonious society would be emphasized by the government and that settlements and mediation would be pushed more strenuously by judges and arbitrators.

Looks like I was right, although I didn’t at the time know exactly why.
