I realize that President Obama is on vacation in Martha's Vineyard, but I suspect that is not the only explanation for the fact that he and Ben Bernanke are looking so causal at the announcement of Bernanke's reappointment as Federal Reserve Chair ...

Even the most ardent Bernanke supporters have to admit that the decision to reappoint has as much to do with style as with substance. The message: we have backed the economy away from the abyss, and we will just keep this good thing going.

Look how relaxed we are! No sweat. I can run this economy while I am on vacation!

President Obama is all "Ben this" and "Ben that." Not a single reference to "Chairman Bernanke."

It's all good.
