: West Neanderthal DriveAnother Difference Between Them and Us

Two stories, both involving dogs, both involving the legal systems of their respective countries, pointing up the differences between America and Iran.
First, this item from Adnkronos International:
The whole thing lives here. (THX to DhimmiWatch.Com)Iran: Four months in jail and 30 lashes for walking dog in streets
Tehran, 19 Feb.(AKI) - A 70-year-old man has been sentenced by an Iranian judge to four months in jail and 30 lashes for going out on the street with his dog.
The incident took place in Shahr Rey, a suburb of Tehran when the owner of the dog was caught by a police who quickly handcuffed the man. He was later charged by an Islamic judge for "disturbing the public order".
Then, this item from Wichita, in which a lady walked into her garage and in on an unprecedented act involving her Rottweiler:
Police arrested Josh Coman, 20, for aggravated burglary of a home and criminal sodomy. Coman pleaded guilty last year to a similar crime involving a dog in Reno County. Police say the state's new Magnum's Law, designed to protect animals from abuse, does not cover sexual assaults. However, state law prohibits sexual contact between humans and animals.
Authorities say Coman knew the family of the dog he reportedly attacked. Investigators plan to present their case to the district attorney later this week.
We hate bo seen blaming the victim here, but the we used to live with a Rottweiler, and she wasn't quite so complaisant when it cames to guys sneaking in to her space. More details than most people would want live here.
The technical term in Kansas for what Mr. Coman is said to have done is "criminal sodomy", and is a class B non-person misdemeanor, which means the maximum penalty is six months in the county Bastille and a $1,000.00 fine. The puts it at about the same level of seriousness as being a school employee and failing to make a required report.
So look out.
As far as we've been able to tell, not only is walking your dog not illegal in Kansas, but there are no crimes on the books that will get you four months in the slammer and 30 lashes.
