Help Others the Way YOU Would Like To Be Treated and Be Rewarded

ZZ12F54758.jpgGuest post by Sarge from Beginner Blogger:

Most blogs are out there to serve some sort of purpose or value to their readers otherwise, why would readers continue to read your blog? Some blogs are there to help solve a problem. Like this blog and my blog Beginner Blogger for example. I use my blog to give valuable information to bloggers and beginner bloggers alike to achieve success or getting started with their blogs.

If someone comes to me with a question or for help I try and help them. But I help them in MY way. There are many blogs out there offering advice, my blog is a good example of this. I try and offer you advice based on my experiences. My advice to you is to take advice for what it is ADVICE. You don’t have to do everything step by step, word for word. Most of the time, this isn’t going to work 100% exactly for you.

I’m hoping you have a blog where you’re providing a helpful/valuable service to your readers. That’s great – but make sure you are helping them in a way that is beneficial to you. If you are helping people out but it’s somehow causing stress or effecting the way you’re going about your business then it’s time to rethink the WAY you’re helping people out. You can still help others out but just change the method of approach.

For example, if someone comes up to me with an in-depth blogging question I could reply to it myself and spend a great deal of time helping the person out or I could refer them to someone that knows more about the topic than I do already or to a resource that’s already out there that will solve the problem and save me a great deal of time.

The desired result is still the same – you’ve helped solve a problem for someone. The difference is that you’ve saved time and you’ve established a greater relationship with the person whose site you recommended.

Leverage the internet. If someone is asking you for help and you know of a resource out there that will solve the problem that’s been asked – let them know about it. You don’t have to be a hero and re-invent the wheel to make yourself look good. There’s enough information out there already that half the problems in life today are already solved – you just have to find it.

They key is to help people out, but in a way that helps you too as well as someone you may refer someone else to.

For example do you create a blog post then just wait around in hope that someone will retweet, vote or comment on your new blog post? I’m guilty of doing this from time to time. I’ll post a blog post and post a tweet on twitter to promote my new blog post. I’ll then have a short 10-minute break feeling good about myself that my post is up there and come back in hope that people are visiting my blog etc.

How good does it feel when you get an engagement on your newly created blog? A better question: How BAD does it feel if after a few hours you haven’t received any engagement?

So retweet, vote and comment. I’m not saying do this for every single post, but if you think it’s worthy, you actually read the post and enjoyed it then give a few seconds to the blogger that made the post you just enjoyed or gained value from and take the time to let others know by voting, commenting or retweeting. Chances are if it benefited you then it will probably benefit someone else. You may also gain a new relationship with someone that could branch out to all sorts of opportunities. It’s the small things that matter and make a big difference.

You learnt it when you were in school – Treat others the way you would like to be treated. The next time you’ve just published a blog post and have promoted the heck out of it, take a break and acknowledge some of the other bloggers out there doing a great job and providing great content. Do your bit.
