Apple Valley ponders state prison January 10, 2010 BROOKE EDWARDS Staff Writer APPLE VALLEY ? Plans to build a 500-bed state prison facility on the northern edge of town are back before the council Tuesday. The town first expressed support for the reentry facility in May 2008, citing its goal to reduce prisoner recidivism and promises it?ll employ 325 to 350 people with average salaries of $85,000. Now the state is asking Apple Valley to execute a ?Will Serve? letter, agreeing to provide sewer service to the planned 22,000-square-foot prison adjacent to the Juvenile Detention Center on Dale Evans Parkway. The Secure Community Reentry Facility will house inmates during the last six to 12 months of their sentences, with counseling and job training planned to help them reintegrate into society...continue to full post
