HELP HAITI: Kentucky Lawyers Care can help get money to the American Red Cross to help Haitians NOW and cut through the red tape

By Michael Stevens

ADVERTISEMENTS

Haiti1 I am proud to post this following email I received from attorney Phil Grossman.  I am not sure who has taken the lead, but it does not matter.  It is amazing what can be accomplished when no one worries about who gets the credit.  There are over 16,000 lawyers in Kentucky, and if each one gives $10, then  $160,000 can be raised nearly over night.  Thinking small can  still produce big results!  And, if office staff, paralegals, court reporters, and more give, there is no end in sight for the dollars that can be raised.

Just giving up one or two meals this week helps you beat the bulge and help those in dire straits.  So think about giving, but do give.... and give a little more than you thought you were going to give......

Here's the email I received from Phil.

I?m sure you feel as I do that Haiti needs immediate humanitarian support to aid in dealing with the massive destruction caused by the recent earthquake there. Haiti is a poor country and their own emergency services will not be able to handle the estimated deaths of over 100,000 persons.

KJA has formed Kentucky Lawyers Care ? Haiti and will deliver member donations directly to the American Red Cross chapter here in Louisville on January 29, 2010.  According to National Public Radio, it could take an average of 90 days for the Red Cross to receive funds donated via text messaging. Checks made payable to the American Red Cross can be cashed and the funds put to work immediately.

Thank you so very much for your support of this critical cause.

Sincerely,

Phil Grossman

Please note that timing is important when the need is now.  Many faith-based organizations already have organizations and systems in place with a history of helping Haitians such that your contributions to them would enable funds to get their faster.  Please be careful, and I am reminded to two time-honored legal phrases used over the years -

all deliberate speed, and

time is of the essence.

If you wish to give, then give now.  If you give now, then give to organizations which enable the money and aid to get there now.  If you have a faith-based organization you wish to use, then do that as well.  Again, the good that can be done is limitless when there are no concerns who gets the credit.
