Harbinger of Things to Come

According to some of the authors I read, the coming economic melt down, which will dwarf the recent downturns we have experienced thus far, will be accompanied by massive social unrest and a return to an ?is verses them? social mentality.  The latest monthly publication of The Socionomist states that: ?as the negative mood increases, expect to see further increases in polarization along political, ideological, religious, geographical, racial and economic lines.?  That group has already predicted that one result of this behavior will be the break up of the European Union.  Groups like the Southern Poverty Law Center have already tracked a large increase in hate crimes in the U.S. since the beginning of the bear market.  In this context, an article like the one which appears on the front page of the local paper, the Star Telegram, is even more concerning.  ?These [four previously discussed] seemingly unrelated violent crimes are linked by one thing, authorities say. All four involved members of the Aryan Circle, one of the largest Texas-based white supremacist gangs in the United States.  The rapid ascent of the Aryan Circle, which split off from the larger Aryan Brotherhood in the 1980s, so alarmed the Anti-Defamation League that the civil rights group undertook a study of the burgeoning gang. It released a 37-page report last month.?  Perhaps it is a good time to follow my late grandmother?s advice, expect the best, prepare for the worst and take what comes.
