I like Ilya?s default rule on hat tips. Also, I think the ideal approach when submitting a tip is to say either way if you want your name mentioned. The problem I have found is that some people really don?t want their names mentioned but others really really do. (Indeed, I have received follow-up e-mails from readers who had submitted tips and were upset or angry because they felt they weren?t properly credited.) In my experience, bloggers are always happy to credit or not as tippers prefer; if tippers just make their preference known then everyone goes home happy. But a perfect world isn?t the one we have, so I think Ilya?s default rule makes sense.
