: New York City Personal Injury LawyerNew York Company Recalls Baby Products Due to Quality Complaints and Injury
By Paul Napoli
February 11, 2010
The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) announced a recall of infant's wind chime toys today because the toy poses puncture and laceration hazards to the baby. Consumers are warned to stop using the recalled products immediately.
Tiny Love Inc., of New York, NY and the Maya Group Inc., of Huntington Beach, CA are voluntarily recalling these defective products in the United States and Canada after receiving five reports of babies pulling apart the wind chimes and exposing the sharp metal rods, including a report of a minor injury to a 24-month-old baby who punctured his cheek with the rods.
'Unfortunately, lately we received a few complaints from consumers regarding the quality of some of our wind chime products, a product which over 2 million units of were produced and sold worldwide. Nevertheless, and as baby's safety is the most important thing to us, Tiny Love has decided on a voluntary recall, of the effected products, in cooperation with The CPSCs. Despite very remote chances of harm, we have a great responsibility for our customers and will not expose them even to the smallest risk,' said the company's website.
This recall affects about 600,000 wind chime toys sold in the United States and about 200,000 sold in Canada and involves those wind chime toys sold separately, with the Gymini Kick & Play Activity Gym and Tiny Smarts Gift Sets. The toy produces the sound of a wind chime. 'Tiny Love' is printed on a tag on the toy. The following names and item numbers are included in this recall:
Baby Wind Chime # 493
Baby Wind Chime – Ocean # 593
Tiny Smarts – Baby Bunny # 512
Wind Chime – Duck # 811
*The Wind Chime - Duck is sold with the Gymini Kick and Play
Activity Gym. Only the Wind
Chime is affected by this Recall.
Wind Chime – Louie # 516
Wind Chime – Ella # 517
Tiny Smarts Gift Set # 539
*Bunny Wind Chime is the only product affected by this Recall. These products were sold at Toys R Us, Wal-Mart, Target, Buy Buy Baby and TJ Maxx stores nationwide from February 2002 through February 2010 for about $8 separately, $22 for the Tiny Smarts Gift Sets and $70 with the Gymini Kick & Play Activity Gym.
The Tiny Love website points out that, 'It is important to us to emphasize that the products in question are older products, manufactured in a factory we ceased working with over a year ago.'
Consumers may contact Tiny Love at (888) 791-8166 or visit www.tinylove.com to return the recalled wind chime and receive an equivalent item and a $2 shipping reimbursement
