Center Settles After Boy Dies During Violent Restraint

A Tennessee juvenile detention center has agreed to pay $10.5 million to settle a lawsuit filed by the mother of 17-year-old boy who died at the facility in 2007 after allegedly being put in a choke hold by guards. The lawsuit describes the restraint as a ?brutal attack? and claims the guards involved should ?never have been hired, were never properly trained, and should have been disciplined or fired for incidents before (the boy) arrived.? The death was the second at the detention center, which has come under severe scrutiny by officials in several states.
