: Des Moines Personal Injury LawyerGoogle Buzz: Facebook Beware
By Barbara Tubridy Lombardi
A class action suit was filed in federal court against Google Buzz on behalf of Eva Hibnick, a 24 year old, second year Harvard Law School student.
Google Buzz is projected to be the death nell of Facebook. It is Google's version of online social networking but the complaint alleges there were violations of the Federal Electronic Communications Privacy Act, the Federal Computer Fraud and Abuse Act, the Federal Stored Communications Act, and California common and statutory law.
Google Buzz automatically opts in all Gmail users without explicit permission from the account holders. Hibnick contends, 'I feel like they did something wrong. They opted me into this social network and I didn't want it.'
One of Hibnick's attorneys, Gary Mason of Mason Law Firm LLP, based in Washington, D.C. stated that what they are looking for is 'a commitment from Google that they're not going to do this again the next time they launch a product.'
Google Buzz remains an opt out program.
One has to wonder, how much of the internet Google can control before the United States Department of Justice steps in and files an antitrust case like they did against Microsoft.
