The health care summit just concluded and we’ll have more analysis soon. Until then, here are some articles and blog posts that you may have missed:
- David Weigel chronicles the cut-throat jockeying among Republicans to win the chance to take the seat of the late John Murtha [D, PA-12]. (The Washington Independent)
- On the other side of the aisle, Murtha’s widow Joyce has endorsed Mark Critz, a former aide to her husband, in the Democratic primary for the same seat. (The New York Times)
- Sen. Robert Byrd [D, WV], the longest serving member in Senate history, comes out strongly against the idea of eliminating or weakening the filibuster. (The Hill)
- Felix Salmon takes a look at Sen. Bob Corker’s [R, TN] attempts to water down the Consumer Financial Protection Agency. (Retuers)
- Chris Good explains why many Republican senators voted to pass the Senate jobs bill this week. (The Atlantic)
- A lot of lawmakers trotted out health care horror stories today but probably the most memorable came from Rep. Louise Slaughter [D, NY-28]. Karen Tumulty has video and a transcript in which Slaughter tells of a constituent who was forced to wear her dead sister’s dentures. (Time)
- One of the best ways to follow today’s health care summit was on Twitter. In particular, I’d like to highlight the feeds of Ezra Klein, Karen Tumulty and Jonathan Cohn.
