: Legal Pad | LABrown goes to bat for farm laborers in new suit

A lawsuit filed in Imperial County Superior Court by State Attorney General Jerry Brown alleges that farm labor contractor Juan Munoz underpaid workers and scheduled them for continuous shifts in "potentially deadly" conditions in the Coachella Valley and other areas without training them to avoid heat exhaustion.
The suit seeks restitution in the amount of $500,000, plus an additional $500,000 in civil penalties.
Additionally, prosecutors say that Munoz and his associates kept no records of the work being done, itself a violation of the state Labor Code.
