What is Uncle Sam Podcasting?

By Biddle Law Library

ADVERTISEMENTS

Many of us use podcasts for education, entertainment, music and news.  An August 2008 Pew/Internet & Project Survey, for instance, has noted that in 2007, 34% of adult Americans and 43% of internet users own an iPod or an MP3 player.   Approximately a year earlier in 2006, the same survey noted that the corresponding percentages were 20% and 29% respectively.

Few may be aware that the federal government also offers podcasts, as another means of providing quick and easy official information and services to the public.   On the web page 'Podcasts from the U.S. Government,' for instance, the federal government has created a website which brings together federal agency podcasts in one place.

Topics on 'Podcasts from the U.S. Government' include subject areas ranging from 'Reference and General Government Podcasts' to 'History, Arts, and Culture Podcasts.'   Under 'References and General Government Podcasts,' recent appellate oral arguments may be found.  For example, a listener may hear a 31 minute oral argument in "University of Chicago v. Kathleen Sebelius," a Seventh Circuit case.   In contrast, under 'History, Arts, and Culture Podcasts,' broadcasts on a variety of humanities topics may be heard.  The "The Will of the People: The Supreme Court and the American Public" is one such example.   Additional podcasts categories include 'Health Podcasts,' such as 'Healthy Lifestyle Benefits.'

These are just a few of the types of podcasts which you can find on the web site 'Podcasts from the U.S. Government.'  Visit 'Podcasts from the U.S. Government' often for the latest in federal audio broadcasting!
