: Legal Pad | LAOC firm pays $100K to settle Ponzi suit
By Richard Binder
Paul H. Heckler and his Tustin firm, Yosemite Capital Management, agreed yesterday to ay more than $100,000 to settle charges by the Securities and Exchange Commission that they placed clients into what turned out to be a Ponzi scheme.
It was alleged by the SEC that Yosemite defrauded clients by conducting inadequate research before investing $3.25 million in Ashton Investments, a company that secretly fed clients into the scheme run by former Democratic fundraiser Norman Hsu.
Hsu was sentenced to more than 24 years in prison last year for fraud and violating campaign-finance laws.
