ADVERTISEMENTS

If you are a New York white-collar defense attorney, you might be interested in this bit of breaking news coming out of St. Andrews Plaza, in downtown Manhattan.

Last month we told you that Assistant U.S. Attorney Ray Lohier, one of the top white-collar cops in the city appears bound for the 2nd Circuit.

Today the U.S. attorney’s office in Manhattan announced, among other things, that Lohier’s replacement as securities-fraud chief will be Christopher Garcia, 36 years old. Garcia led the prosecutions of former Refco CEO Phil Bennett and former Mayer Brown partner Joseph Collins, who also participated in the Refco fraud.

The unit has had an embarrassment of riches when it comes to high-profile cases. Click here to see more about the recent successes of the unit at the U.S. attorney’s office, also known as the southern district of New York, or SDNY.

Garcia, (Harvard ‘95, Harvard Law ‘99) a former Davis Polk associate in New York, will be flanked by deputies Marc Berger, 35, and Bonnie Jonas, 40.
