Eight Days in Haiti

When Reed Smith pro bono counsel Jayne Fleming landed in Port-Au-Prince in early March, the scene on the ground, she says, was something straight out of a science fiction end-of-the-world movie. Tents covered the landscape. Haitians were wandering the streets clearing rubble by hand. Buildings were "pancaked," with one floor collapsed on top of another. Here, Fleming recounts her experience interviewing Haitians hoping to come to the U.S. as part of a humanitarian parole program.
