GenCounsel, a legal services company started in 2009 to provide outsourced general counsel services, added seven attorneys to the two-person start up.
GenCounsel was co-founded by Steven J. Feder and John E. Parker, former general counsel for local companies as well as former attorneys in Pepper Hamilton and Morgan Lewis & Bockius, respectively.
The company said Thursday it added Bill Brady, Al Bristow, Kacey Cahill, Rob Gunther, Bob Hecht, Michael Nachman and Peter Ritz.
The goal of the company is to provide legal services to time and budget-strapped law departments or companies with no in-house counsel, all on a managed cost model.
?GenCounsel continues to add new clients on a continuous basis, primarily in emerging to mid-stage businesses, as well as larger companies whose legal departments are squeezed by budget constraints,? Feder said in a statement. ?At a time of general contraction in the legal services industry, we are witnessing increased demand from companies that seek the highest quality of legal services in an environment that requires cost certainty.?
New addition Brady was former general counsel at Fulltilt Solutions, VISTA Information technologies and IKON Office Solutions. Corporate transactional attorney and former business executive Bristow was the general counsel for Barrier Therapeutics.
Intellectual property and corporate attorney Cahill was an in-house counsel at SunGard Data Systems. Gunther has served in either general counsel or senior counsel roles at Entech Solar, Keating Bulding Corp., Summit Bancorp, PeopleSoft (USA) and Vertis.
Hecht has experience counseling in the chemicals, pharmaceuticals, life sciences and medical device industries. He has served as general counsel of Merck KgaA?s North American chemicals group ? EMD Chemicals) and associate general counsel of Johnson Matthey?s North America division.
Nachman is a corporate attorney with experience in the media and telecommunications industries. He previously served as general counsel to Pegasus Broadcast Television.
Ritz, currently a managing director of Xtium, co-founded Xtium, Replevix, NTERA Inc., AirClic, Viral Media and Silicon Stemcell. He previously directed legal operations for Ikon Technology Services.
