: PrawfsAssistant Attorney General James J. Wells is My All-Time Favorite Movie Lawyer
By Dan Markel, Ethan Leib, Rick Garnett, Matt Bodie, Paul Horwitz , Steve Vladeck, and Orly Lobel
You can have your Atticus Finch. My favorite movie lawyer of all time only appeared for a few minutes and then went on to hawk Quaker Oats and "die-a-BEAT-us" supplies: Wilford Brimley as James J. Wells, Assistant Attorney General for the Organized Crime Division. Now there's a lawyer: a man who can stuff a chaw in his mouth before he gives some straight-from-the-shoulder advice that the U.S. attorney in Miami ought to resign, and who can say "supeenie" for subpoena without cracking a smile. (For what it's worth, and merely for name-dropping purposes, the screenwriter was Kurt Luedtke, former managing editor of the Detroit Free Press, and the next door neighbor of one of my former partners.)
